The Five Cities area is located 30 miles south of Cayucos and is composed of Avila Beach, Shell Beach, Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, Oceano, and Arroyo Grande. Pismo Beach Pismo Beach is a popular tourist spot year round. It's long sandy beaches are much more crowded than those of Cayucos. The beach area also has numerous shops and restaurants. A large outlet mall is located just off Highway One near 4th street. Avila Beach Avila Beach has a wonderful beach and park facing south. Like Cayucos, Avila Beach is the last place to fog and the first place to clear. It also has a moderately difficult 18 hole public golf course. Oceano is the gateway to Oceano Dunes State Park - a popular recreational site where you can drive and camp on the beach. Grover Beach supports two miles of commercial shopping on Grand Avenue. Arroyo Grande has several large shopping centers but at the East end of Grand Avenue lies the Village. This small center is a delightful place to shop and it hosts the annual Strawberry Festival. |
